Drought in Normandy !

Sécheresse en Normandie !

Beautiful Normandy! Known for its rain and rich, lush pastures. Sadly, this year, after a long, cold winter and a late spring (to be quite honest, a "spring" that never really did materialize!), we are suffering from a drought!

Oui, la belle Normandie est reconnue pour la pluie et ses luxuriants pâturages. Hélas! Cette année, après un hiver très rude et un printemps tardif (voir quasiment pas au rendez-vous!), nous subissons la sécheresse!

The fields are dry and "burnt" and there is little grazing. As a result, it has been a major challenge to find bales of hay. The hay crop has been very poor : barely half that of a "normal" year. In short, it has been very difficult to find any hay at all ... and the price keeps going up and up! If that weren't bad enough, I have to start feeding hay now. Yes! Feeding hay in July! Pretty sad.

Les prés sont grillés et l’herbe se fait très rare. Alors, cette année fut une véritable chasse aux petites bottes de foin. La récolte de cette année a été très faible : à peine la moitié d’une année “normale”. Bref, très difficile d’en retrouver ... et à un prix qui ne cesse pas de monter en flèche! En plus, avec le manque d’herbage, il faut penser à donner du foin dès maintenant. Oui, donner du foin au mois de juillet, c’est bien triste.

But after a fair amount of searching, I was lucky enough to find some. It was more expensive and further away than last year ... but it is excellent quality hay.

Pourtant, après pas mal de recherches j’ai eu la chance d’en trouver. C’était plus cher et plus loin que l’année dernière ... mais c’est du foin de très bonne qualité.

I have to say that I'm really relieved to have my winter supply of hay in the barn.

Il faut dire que je suis soulagée d'en avoir finalement un stock suffisant dans la grange.
